Garissa University: 148 Students Killed

On 2 April 2015, four Al-Shabaab gunmen attacked Garissa University College in northeastern Kenya. They separated students by religion and executed those who could not recite the Quran. 148 people were killed, mostly students. It was the deadliest terror attack in Kenya since the 1998 US Embassy bombing. The attack exposed failures in security intelligence, in the response to warnings that had been received and in the protection of institutions in marginalised parts of the country. Kenya mourned collectively. Then it buried its dead and continued.
