Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon from Kerio Valley in the Rift Valley is the greatest 1,500-metre runner in history. She won Olympic gold in 2016, 2020 and 2024, becoming only the second woman in history to win three Olympic golds in the same individual track event. She also holds the world records for the 1,500 metres, the mile and the 5,000 metres. She trains at altitude, wakes before dawn, and combines elite athletics with motherhood. Her dominance of middle-distance running has given Kenya a new dimension of athletic excellence beyond the marathon.
