Jomo Kenyatta Goes to London to Fight for Kenya

In 1929, a young Kikuyu man named Johnstone Kamau, who would later call himself Jomo Kenyatta, boarded a ship to London. He went to present the grievances of the Kikuyu Central Association to the British government. He would spend most of the next sixteen years in Britain, studying at the London School of Economics, writing his landmark book Facing Mount Kenya, and building the political connections that would one day help him become the father of a nation. He had left Kenya as an activist. He would return as a revolutionary.
